Philly Beer Week!!

posted on March 18, 2009 in Admin posts

I know I’m a little late with this post, but I wanted to make sure I posted something about this great event.

I was only able to make it out to 2 events (so far) but enjoyed them both.

First, Marissa & I checked out Teresa’s Next Door for the intro of Duvel Green. Great bar.. we will be back. They have an 11 page beer book! Sweet! Not so keen on the Green. I prefer regular Duvel.

Josh and I made it out to Local 44 this past Sunday as they were host of a history making event… they had 7 Russian River beers on tap all at once (for about 45 minutes at least, before the 1st beer kicked)! Let the record show that we were first to the bar, first in the bar, and served first! Heh! It was a fun time. It got super crowded by the time we left, and the best of the beers were gone. Pliny the Younger has a well deserved reputation, as do all the other Russian River beers. Hopefully, their beers will become easier to get in the coming months.

Out for now.

Cya on Saturday!

This site best not viewed in Internet Exploder! Use Firefox!

posted on October 12, 2008 in Site Info

I was surprised to learn how many folks are still using Microsoft’s Inet Explorer. For some reason, this site doesn not work correctly using IE, and right now I don’t have time to fix the issue. Sorry about that!

I’ll try to fix it in the future, but for now, please view the site using Firefox. Works great using that browser. There’s really no good reason to use IE anymore anyway! :-)

That’s why several of you can’t see the exclusion list, etc. You can only see about 25% of the content on the site. There is some type of transparent gif issue with IE which is blocking the correct viewing.

2. You must like the beer you bring (and be willing to take home any unopened bottles/cans, if any remain.)
3. Beer can be any flavor, any strength, from any brewery, (providing #2 is true) subject to exclusion and previously shared lists. (See exclusion and previously shared lists)
4.  Please label your cooler with its original contents. Note that by the end of the night, it will most likely become a variety of different beers.

How a Beer Club Meeting works

posted on in Beer Club Info

Our Beer Club Meetings run something like this:

    • Bring 1 case of beer (24-12oz. Bottles or cans) in a cooler with ice subject to exclusion and previously shared lists.  (See exclusion and previously shared lists)
    • You must like the beer you bring (and be willing to take home any unopened bottles/cans, if any remain.)
    • Beer can be any flavor, any strength, from any brewery, (providing #2 is true) subject to exclusion and previously shared lists.  (See exclusion and previously shared lists)
    • Please label your cooler with its original contents. Note that by the end of the night, it will most likely become a variety of different beers.
    • You can drink from any cooler you like, including your own, BUT…Before you open a bottle/can from someone else’s cooler, you must replace it with an unopened bottle/can from your cooler. (Unless it’s your own, obviously!)
    • You can drink as fast or as slow as you like. (Slow is preferable.  The more you drink at the meeting, the less you will be able to take home.)
    • At the end of the night, we will allow a final 1-for-1 exchange of unopened bottles/cans, and you can take home whatever is left in your cooler.
    • Bring your favorite vessel (mug, stein, pint, yard, mason jar, etc.)

Typically, the host will provide food of some type. So far, burgers and dogs have been the choice of the day.

Guests (Limit of 2 adults per case of beer) are requested to please bring a snack food, a salad or a desert to share.

Driving:  Please do not drive drunk. If you “taste” too much and need to sleep it off, the host always has a place for you to lie down, no problem.

      Beer Exclusion List

posted on in Beer Club Info

*Exclusion List:  Please do not bring common, cheap or frat-house beer.

Examples are: Bud, Bud Light, Coors, Coors Light, Miller, Miller Lite, MGD, Old Milwaukee, Milwaukees Best, Bohemian, Natty Light, Iron City, Pabst, Schlitz, Heineken, Amstel, Corona, Peroni, etc.  You get the idea.

Special editions or limited-distribution flavors from the national brewers are OK.  Local brews, microbrews, and many imports are OK.  The idea is to exchange a craft-style type of beer.  We’ve also opened this up to malt-flavored beverages. Beer is highly preferred; however, if one of your party does not particularly appreciate beer, a few malt-flavored beverages for that person will be acceptable.
